I have not visited the cemetery, but I have heard so much about it. My boyfriend had 2 of the best dogs in Grant until one of them recently passed away. I learned what coon hunting is all about from her. She taught me alot. She was the first coon dog he had. We say she was a person inside a dogs body. He has a younger dog named Trapper, and he has learned from her. So you can say her Legend lives on.

I have not visited the Coon Dog Cemetary but have heard alot about it. My boyfriend has a Coon Dog, which he is still a puppy. I didn't know much or should I say nothing at all about coon dogs until I met him. At first I thought it was cruel but when he explained it to me my thoughts changed. Whomever started the Coon Dog cemetary this was a great idea---I know these men are very close to their dogs and they hold a special place in there heart. Hopefully one night I will experience the sound of barking echoes of his coon dog. smile

I am not a coon hunter, although several members of my family have been all of their lives. This is a sacred place for the hunter's best friend and should be treated as such. I have to say that as I read the various grave markers, one in particular stands out. It simply says "He wasn't the best, but he was the best I ever had". I stood there heartbroken and wept as I read this tribute. Thank God for these animals and for the folks who love them enough to make the journey to lay them to rest here.

"Where The Red Fern Grows" is one of my all-time favorite books. Anyone that hasn't read it, young or old, you are missing out. I've been to the Coon Dog Cemetery, and am going back soon to show some friends. It is just awesome. Great website!

My husband and I were watching Sweet Home Alabama and he noticed her sitting in a coon hound cemetery and said"I wonder if there really is a place like that." So I went straight to my computer and there it was. Unbelievable! My husband is a huge coon hunter. We have three dogs in the kennel as I speak. He can't wait to visit. big grin

The only thing real about the cemetery in the movie Sweet Home Alabama is that there is a Coon Dog Cemetery in Alabama. Everything else was "Hollywood Glitter". The Cemetery is located in North Alabama not South Alabama like the movie portrays. The Cemetery is out in the sticks, not next to town.

Just don't folks to think the cemetery is just like what the movie shows.

We ran from a hurricane last season and wound up in the area. I picked up some brouchures and when I mentioned this, my nine year old HAD to see it! We spent some time reading the epitaphs and really enjoyed it. I am glad there is a website!

Stopped by the cemetery yesterday while turkey hunting in the area. I coon hunted some many years ago, and owned a couple of decent hounds. I know how attached one can become to four-legged critters, and am happy to know there is a special place for some of them to spend eternity.

I must admit I had a few tears in my eyes as I read the old headstones.

Im 18 years old and i have been coon hunting for 16 years now. I know funny i was being carried threw the woods before i could really talk. My grandfater is the one who started me. Im hunting a little walker female right now, but there are 2 hounds that i would have loved to layed to rest there. Rock was a open back walker. Just a hard treeing coon crazy SOB. Chyanne, this lil girl was taken when she was only five but was a direct Grand daughter to South Creek Rock. I know they both are both up on the bark ever night so it puts a smile on my face

"But" Like they say, he's had his better nights. The time is coming soon when I'll have to lay him down And, I really wanted to do something nice for him..I was wondering what I had to do,,to lay him at rest there.
