My wife and I were staying at Tuscumbia RV Park and found the cemetery while searching for things to do. We have a cocker spaniel whom we love but unfortunately while in Tuscumbia the vet discovered Huck's cancer. As he is still mobile we take him everywhere with us to include while touring the wonderful cemetery. We have a deep appreciation of the emotions experienced by those who have lost their dogs.

I was up in North Alabama & Mississippi on business this past week and passed the sign for the cemetery a few times & was told about it by a coworker, before I headed south towards my home,
I deviated off the beaten path for a scenic drive & finally located the Coon Dog Cemetery-
Spent about 15-30 mins there, had to leave as I had 500 miles to drive home.
Would love to return on a later trip, when I have more time to read the various tombstones & absorb the history & stories that lie beneath each headstone.
I have recently rescued a stray lost coon dog-
Treeing Walker Coonhound-
I have lived my entire 53 years & haven’t had the privilege of coon hunting,,
This old dog wants to hunt...
Constantly baying at trees in the backyard...
I need to let him go & run...
Not sure he will come back, as he doesn’t listen well.

Bottom Line Up Front - I have Underwood Blood in me. My mother was Barbara Ann Miller, her mother was Willie Mae Underwood who married a Miller. She had 3 brothers, Thomas, Frank, & I forget the 3rd one's name. She had 2 sisters Rae and Buella. Thomas worked for the telephone company in Russellville, AL. I am pretty sure my Grandmother Willie Mae Underwood had a cousin Key Underwood who established Coon Dog Cemetery in 1937 www.coondogcemetery.com There may have been a family reunion in Russellville where I may have met Key Underwood. I remember my mom telling me of one where Tammy Wynette played there for us and Country Boy Eddie was there. My cousin married Country Boy Eddies niece so I am sort of related to him,had dinner with him before and been to his house a couple of times. My memory is pretty shoddy nowadays, but that is what I remember.

My husband works for Colbert County Sheriff Dept. and bought me to see it. Amazing. So today i bought my daughter and granddaughter to see it. My granddaughter was amazed by it.
She is only 6 yrs old. She had to put a penny [img][/img]on the graves but didn't have enough for all so i told her we would bring her back to finish it. At the end she said this was so sad.

God Bless this beautiful place where we honor those beautiful old hounds we loved so much and still do! There is nothing in this world than these dogs, and the sound of there bark on a tree. I have beautiful memories of my father, hunting trips and all those beautiful dogs. Always loved, always remembered.Thank you for keeping this place sacred and honored.

The Coon Dog Cemetery is indeed a treasure. It is such a wonderful place to experience the love that we have for our "Best Friends". Thank you for taking such good care of our "Little Piece Of Heaven" in Alabama.

Through the luck of a dinner conversation while recently visiting Alabama, I learned of the Coon dog cemetery. I own a wonderful purebred Blutetick, A slight "detour" was made on the trip home to allow me to visit the cemetery. It was beautiful and very touching. I was so glad to have learned of it and been able to visit it.

Growing up in AL I always heard about this place but we always owned Basset or Bloodhounds. Now that I got a B&T Coonhound that runs, while she's as dumb as a rock for every thing else... man, she sure knows how to tree 'em. I hope maybe this might be her final place to rest after a long run but that's too soon to think about.

Tom and I visited the Coon Dog Cemetery on August 3, 2017. We enjoyed walking around and looking at all of the flowers on the graves and reading the headstones. My favorite is, "FELIX" A COONS WORST ENEMY!.
The cemetery is clean, and well maintained. We enjoyed reading about its history.
Thanks to all who work hard to keep it nice.

Tricia and I visited Coon Dog Cemetery on August 31. We had passed the turnoff on the way to Rattlesnake Saloon a couple of days before, then when we were informed it was the real "Coon Dog Cemetery", we returned. So glad we did; beautiful, peaceful, well kept spot in the country. I've owned many dogs, never a coon dog, but had a pet coon once. Sure could use a coon dog today to chase all the coons off my back porch at night.
Will post an article on our blog site about our visit. @cajuntrippers Craig and Tricia

I have a Tennessee Walker Coon Hound and a big beautiful Blue Tick Coon Hound. I've never hunted; we just live in the woods. My Blue Tick took me walking, the day my mother died, and she bayed for me at several trees. Somehow it helped me. I look forward to visiting your cemetery, and I mean to run my dogs, at least in trials, 'cause I know they want to, and I know they can show their mettle and be proud. I have great respect for the man who owned Troop and loved his dog.

One of Miss Alice's prints which is a favorite of our visitors is "The Coons in Heaven Better Hide Tonight" which captures the cemetery and those beloved companions who are buried there.
