The most beautiful, relaxing place in the world. If you listen closely, you can hear the Coon Dogs Baying up the trees in the Hills & Hollers of the Freedom Hills, Cherokee Alabama. My Special Place

Beautiful peaceful cemetery. I enjoyed reading the inscriptions on the stones in total quietness. Came home and told Duke, my black and tan, all about it. Thank you for this lovely spot in which to remember so many friends.

I use to go here pretty much every summer when I was kid. My family lived in Madison, AL and our grandfather use to take us there to go fishing and cookout for the day.. I can't wait to revisit it this summer! It's been well over ten years!

I want to take a moment to remember my grandfather Herbert Clay Henson and O’Neal Bolton the former overseers of Coon Dog Cemetery and to thank those who are continuing to carry on the services held at the cemetery. I appreciate the plate honoring my grandfather and Mr. Bolton at cemetery site. Mr. Henson and Mr. Bolton had a true love for their dogs, the hunt, and for what Coon Dog Cemetery stands for. They enjoyed the time and services they supplied to the cemetery and the Labor Day Celebration held each year. Herbert Clay Henson had 5 dogs buried at the cemetery and I myself have one (Henson’s Blue Rock). So, I want to also thank everyone for their support of cemetery and for dropping by to visit this historical site.

My Black and Tan "Tug" was the best dog ever. It has been over 30 years and I still miss him.

I'm reading The Small Adventure of Popeye and Elvis, by Barbara O'Connor (I am 9), and I discovered that the Coonhound cemetery described in the book is THIS cemetery. I have two coonhounds (rescued) here in Chicago. They love to hunt the neighborhood coons, possums, bunnies and squirrels. Maybe we can bring Millie and Bonnie to this cemetery one day. I love my coonhounds!!!

My wife and I visited back in the summer of 2010 when we visited some friends who told us about the cemetary. Being birdhunters here we love all hunting dogs. There is nothing like hunting with a good dog, whatever the game might be. They all love to run and hunt and are always so eager to do it.
Seeing all the headstones and the feelings the good folks have for their coon dogs shows us just how attached we all get to those special dogs. And rightfully so, those dogs hunt for us with a determination and enthusiasm you just dont see anywhere else.
Thank you for a cemetary that has left its mark on our hearts forever. This is a special place and you feel it when you walk amongst the grounds.

My grandfather sold my daddy's champion coon dog "Space" for a '49 Ford, automatic rifle and $35 back in '69. Rumor has it, the man who bought him, buried him here. I can't wait to come visit the cemetary to see if we can find dad's ol' coon dog :)
