I don't hunt but I was part owner of my daughter's recently deceased female Redbone (Charly's Little Sweatpea) and I am currently part owner of Sweetpea's daughter (Mama's Little Pea). We raise Redbones and my daughter hunts them...she's 15 and absolutely LOVES it. I've never seen her heart broken over an animal until Sweetpea was killed 2 weeks ago. We are going to a hunt this evening (my first) and my daughter (Charly) is going to start bench showing Little Pea. My girl is a regular old teenage girl but she says she's better than the rest b/c she is a COON HUNTER!!!! - her Mama

It is great to see a place like this. I was suprised at the care that was taken to honor the great dogs. It was worth the hour side trip to see it.

We have a Treeing Walker Coonhound. We got him as a pup and he is such an amazing hunter and friend. He is 6 years old now, and we don't even want to think about the day when he is no longer with us... frown

Heard about this cemetary on the radio today. Very interesting. I am the proud owner of "Max" a pure plott hound and "Marley" a pure black and tan. Love the breed. They are very rare in Canada and so I am lucky to have found them in a shelter. We don't hunt with them, but will be starting tracking school with them in the new year. Love the site and photo's!

I think there should be more places like that so when dogs retire they should be put in a place only coonhounds can go

I recently heard about the Key Underwood Cemetery as it was being featured on the radio. When I was younger I had the honor of partnering with several outstanding coonhounds, so the program quickly captured my interest. It's amazing how one brief radio program can arouse so many emotions and wonderful memories. When I think back on it, I feel as though I am just an old coon dog too. I am thankful to see that someone felt obliged to tribute their true and loyal friends.

i think that this is a good idea for true coon dogs to be buried. i have a full blood treein walker named shoilo. he is our top coon dog that we own. if i knew he was able to be buried there i would love for him to be.

I adopted a Treeing Walker Coonhound 2 years ago, Heidi, and she is awesome. She is a pet, but I would love to let her get out somewhere to run all night on the hunt. She had been trained to hunt as a puppy and then ended up at the pound.

She has the most beautiful bay, even my neighbors don't mind it.

I plan to visit the cemetary one day, I think it's wonderful to have a tribute to my favorite breed of dogs!!

We are owners of two Bluetick Coonhounds that have retired. We adopted Blue off the internet about a year ago who could barely walk because of neglect.Blue is around 16 years of age and still going strong. He is the most loyal dog!Dottie is 13 and a retired bear, bobcat and coon hunter. Now she just hunts the cats next door. We would adopt more if we could and hope to in the future.

I was watching "sweet home Alabama" and thougt that the dog in de movie was great. First I thought it was a Blood hound but it's a Coon Dog! A Breed you don't see that much in Europe!

What a wonderfull idea, what beautiful dogs! As a dog owner (dutch partridges) I find it nice to see such respect for dogs because of their incredible loyalty to us.

kind regards, Nicolette

Actually, the dog in the movie Sweet Home Alabama is a Bloodhound not a Coonhound.

Leave it to Hollywood to screw it up.

Today my husband and I visited the coon dog graveyard. It was wonderful to see the love that people have for their dogs. My Uncle Reuben Ross was a great coon hunter and had lots of coon dogs. My memory of him and wishing he was with us to see this wonderful ground. He also has gone to the heavens above and I am sure that he just might be coon hunting. He was a life long resident of Stewart County Tennessee. Thanks to all for making this a wonderful place for the great coon dogs to be laid to rest for all the work they have done for the masters and best friends.

I visited the Coon Dog Cemetary this afternoon. What a sight to see!! I have a loyal Blue Tick Coon Hound (Maggie) that doesn't officially hunt. However she trees in the back yard. And her bark is one to be heard for blocks. They are the best dogs! Their personality is awesome! When going through the cemetary today, I could see that others felt like we do about our Maggie. It's unfortunate coon hounds have an average life expectancy of 7 years due to their barrel chests and their particular stomachs which can get twisted if they eat too fast. What a nice memorial to coon dogs all over the country. Thanks for starting it in 1937!
