Believe it or not, many coon hounds find their way to New Hampshire and Maine. Our rescue walker coon hound came with 12 others in a van to Portland, Maine. All were adopted out, hopefully, to good homes. While some are used for hunting here, most become pets. Our dog Reesie is originally from KY. Man, is she loud! But she went from a scrawny, neglected pup to a happy dog! Beautiful animals, and don't you just love the ears! Nice cemetery!!! Thanks for the site!

Coonhounds are all over the country as they are hunting dogs. Just like any other hunting dog breed.

You will even find them in South America, Africa and etc... as hunters from those countries also use Coonhounds to hunt with.

Coonhounds are not just a southern thing.

Coonhounds are used for coon hunting, bear hunting, lion hunting and etc...

I recently visited the coon dog cemetery and I was not able to locate Troop's grave. I would like to come back one day. Could you tell me where is grave is located in the cemetery. Thanks

When you are looking at the covered pavillion, Troops grave is located right at the left end of the Pavillion.

It is behind the tree with the sign that says "Only Cemetery Of It's Kind In The World".

I heard about this place years ago. I'm not into hunting or anything like that, but I love bloodhounds and coonhounds. They are the greatest dogs and everyone who has one says they are the best family dogs, since people don't really do coon hunting around here! I don't know if I will ever see this graveyard but I looked at the photos. It's the most touching, sweetest thing, how much these people just loved their dogs. You can just see how heartbroken they were to have to say goodbye to their best friends. They really can't be replaced, but they can't be forgotten either.

Was traveling through Tuscumbia this morning and saw the brochure. I wasn't planning on making a side trip, but I am glad I did.

What a great place.

I like a good dog more than I like a lot of people.

I visited the coon hound cemetary today. I'd found out about it on Roadside America. I was so impressed with it, and saddened for all those lost dogs. It's so hard to lose a loved one; they're part of the family. Thank you for sharing this with all of us who love dogs.

I came with a friend to visit your place on recommendation from another friend.

I did not realize that there were so many coondogs.

Found the History interesting on the gravemarkers.

May the coondogs rest in peace.

My husband has owned and hunted English Redtick coon hounds for over 35 years. His first English Redtick was Dillon' Hatchie River Jim. One of Jim's sons placed in the World Championship Hunt. In 1996 we bought our son a pair of UKC/PKC English Redtick puppies, they were grandsons of Ole Jim. Jim was the best dog anywhere around and one if his grandsons, Dillon's Hatchie River Rebel was a fine dog. Cold nosed and a great tree dog. Jim would bark 2 times per second. We lost Jim in 1988 and Rebel in the winter of 2011 at the age of 14. He had treed a coon not 2 weeks before he died. Now we have a male and female that are 8 months old and they go back to Jim as well. The female Rosie, is already getting up on the tree with the older dogs. She really wants to tree! They are family to us, we all love hounds. All they want is love and to please you.

We bury our hounds at home, so they are always close to us. We just lost GRNITECH-CH Latch 'Em Up Queen on
Feb 17,2012. She was the beloved coonhound of our youngest son.May she Rest in Peace.
