Through the luck of a dinner conversation while recently visiting Alabama, I learned of the Coon dog cemetery. I own a wonderful purebred Blutetick, A slight "detour" was made on the trip home to allow me to visit the cemetery. It was beautiful and very touching. I was so glad to have learned of it and been able to visit it.

Growing up in AL I always heard about this place but we always owned Basset or Bloodhounds. Now that I got a B&T Coonhound that runs, while she's as dumb as a rock for every thing else... man, she sure knows how to tree 'em. I hope maybe this might be her final place to rest after a long run but that's too soon to think about.

Tom and I visited the Coon Dog Cemetery on August 3, 2017. We enjoyed walking around and looking at all of the flowers on the graves and reading the headstones. My favorite is, "FELIX" A COONS WORST ENEMY!.
The cemetery is clean, and well maintained. We enjoyed reading about its history.
Thanks to all who work hard to keep it nice.

Tricia and I visited Coon Dog Cemetery on August 31. We had passed the turnoff on the way to Rattlesnake Saloon a couple of days before, then when we were informed it was the real "Coon Dog Cemetery", we returned. So glad we did; beautiful, peaceful, well kept spot in the country. I've owned many dogs, never a coon dog, but had a pet coon once. Sure could use a coon dog today to chase all the coons off my back porch at night.
Will post an article on our blog site about our visit. @cajuntrippers Craig and Tricia

I have a Tennessee Walker Coon Hound and a big beautiful Blue Tick Coon Hound. I've never hunted; we just live in the woods. My Blue Tick took me walking, the day my mother died, and she bayed for me at several trees. Somehow it helped me. I look forward to visiting your cemetery, and I mean to run my dogs, at least in trials, 'cause I know they want to, and I know they can show their mettle and be proud. I have great respect for the man who owned Troop and loved his dog.

One of Miss Alice's prints which is a favorite of our visitors is "The Coons in Heaven Better Hide Tonight" which captures the cemetery and those beloved companions who are buried there.

Read about The Coon Dog Cemetery in the short "Cold-Nosed and Cold-Hearted" by Jean Rabe and found in a book of Ghost Stories called Familiar Spirits edited by D.J. Bingle. Visited your website and viewed the videos and pictures. I hope to visit there ASAP. What a wonderful tribute to these wonderful creatures and to the relationships with their companions. May the Lord bless you and all.

I have had black and tan coonhounds since 1994--- Lucy, Eunice, Melody (all at the Rainbow Bridge) and currently
Truvy, Annelle, Tony, Curtis and Victor (all 10, 9 and 8yrs. old.)

There is a privilege in owning such a mighty breed....and I thank God every single day for the privilege!

What a beautiful resting place you have in Cherokee, Alabama.

I am sure every coonhound owner shares the same sentiment.
Amen and Release the Hounds!

Today I visited the Coon Dog Cemetery. While I have never owned a coon dog, I have owned dogs that were extremely dear to me. What they say about a dog being man's best friend, is so true. Losing a dog is like losing a family member. It is touching to see this cemetery and tribute to such dedicated dogs.

This cemetery is a beautiful tribute to the dogs so loved by their owners. I am a singer/songwriter originally from Alabama, but now live in NC and have written a song about the Coon Dog Graveyard honoring the late greats buried there and mentioning many of their names. I'd love to plan a tour down that way that coincides with the Labor Day celebration and share some music with you all. I think many would appreciate the song as a tribute to their long lost friends.

I went to the Cemetery yesterday as I was traveling from Pickwick Lake back to Atlanta. I followed two biker couples in and almost turned around twice before finally arriving. They were so nice and from Georgia, as well. I loved the place. The flowers on every grave made these graves more well-cared for than most people cemeteries. I grew up in Mississippi and my daddy and brother never hunted coons. They did hunt squirrel and just about everything else. I do know of the historic love and affection owners feel for hunting dogs and coon dogs, in particular. This was well worth the long, long drive into the Alabama backwoods to get there! I am going back if I ever pass through that part of Alabama again.

I have three redbones and a black and tan currently. I soooo love what this cemetery symbolizes, and write profusely about my dogs learning to hunt, and enriching my life. I MUST visit!

My wife, 8 year old son and I visited Coon Dog Cemetery last Saturday. What a charming and respectful site for beloved coon dogs now past. My son requested we return in a few years, and hopes we will not find too many new inhabitants. Wonderful visit!
